Pull Up Your Own Site on Your Phone Right Now

Most owners have not looked at their own site on a phone in months. Seven in ten of their customers only ever see it that way.

Site Basics

Somebody who does this for a living said the quiet part out loud. Half the small business owners I talk to have not actually looked at their own site on a phone in months, and it is usually a disaster. Meanwhile about seventy percent of the traffic is mobile.

You built it or approved it on a computer. Almost nobody sees it that way. Take two minutes and run these five.

Tap the phone number

Not look at it. Tap it. If the dialer does not open, your number is just text sitting on a page, and every person who wanted to call you had to memorize it or give up. Most give up.

Count the seconds before you can read anything

More than three or four and you are losing about half the people before the page even appears. They do not wait and they do not come back. On most builder platforms this cannot be fully fixed, which is worth knowing if somebody has been charging you to try.

Fill out your own form and send it

All the way through, for real. Then go find out whether it arrived and where it landed. Contractors discover this way that months of submissions were going to an inbox nobody opens, or nowhere at all. Every one of those people thinks they contacted you. They are waiting on a call that is not coming.

Read the first line on the screen out loud

Does it say what you do and where you work? Comprehensive services and quality craftsmanship tell a stranger nothing. If that first line could belong to any company in your trade, it is doing no work for you.

Count the fields on the form

Every extra field costs you people. Somebody found a plumber asking for company size, annual revenue, and preferred method of communication just to quote a toilet repair. Name, number, and what is wrong is enough.

Four of those five take two minutes. Whatever fails is costing you calls today.
